The Library
Ridgeway Academy Library is a vibrant and busy hub with an excellent selection of resources.
Mrs Norris, the Library Manager, is supported by the Library Team, an enthusiastic band of student helpers. To contact her please email: admin@ridgeway.aetrust.uk The Library is a popular and inclusive space within the School. It is a busy centre of learning and reading for pleasure, well used by students during break and lunchtimes. The Library is open Monday – Friday from 9.30am – 3pm. All students in Year 7 are given a Library induction to introduce them to the Library and ICT facilities. This enables them to make best use of the resources available and helps them to become independent and confident learners. Books can be borrowed for two weeks at a time and can be renewed at the issue desk. To support learning and reading for pleasure, Ridgeway Academy Library has a large and varied stock of fiction and information books. Year 7 and 8 students come to the Library once every two weeks for a library lesson; where students read in a relaxing environment, choosing from the wide range of fiction and non-fiction, as well as taking part in book-related activities Ridgeway students are encouraged to take part in shadowing various national book awards including the Carnegie and the Excelsior Graphic Novel Awards. In addition, there are several clubs and competitions that students can take advantage of in the Library. These include Book clubs, Manga & Anime Art Club and Dungeons and Dragons Club. A Halloween reading competition is held in September and October, with further reading competitions being held across the school year.
