The Library
Welcome to Ridgeway Academy Library which is open to all students and staff Monday to Friday until 3.00pm.
Mrs Norris, the Librarian, is supported by the Library Team, an enthusiastic band of student helpers. To contact her please email: library@ridgeway.herts.sch.uk Ridgeway Academy Library is an open and welcoming environment situated close to the Art Department and Osborn Hall. The Library is a busy hub of learning and reading for pleasure, well used by students during break, lunchtimes and after school. All new students are given an Induction tour of the Library and ICT facilities so that they can make the best use of the resources available to enable them to become independent and confident learners. To support learning and reading for pleasure, Ridgeway Academy Library has a large and varied stock of fiction and information books, in addition to magazines, DVDs and audio books. Year 7 and Year 8 students come to the Library once every two weeks for a library lesson. Students read in a relaxing environment, choosing from the wide range of fiction and non-fiction, as well as taking part in book-related activities. Year 7 students also take a quiz after completing each book, earning house points and a chance to become an Accelerated Reader Word Millionaire. Ridgeway students are encouraged to take part in shadowing various national book awards including the Carnegie and Children’s Book Awards. We are also a testing centre for the CBA so there is a constant supply of newly published fiction to read and vote on throughout the year before the shortlisted titles are announced. Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes are particularly busy in the library as students come to Chess Club, Book Club or to attend meetings of the Eco Schools Group. Mrs Norris is keen to support groups of students who need a place to meet so please contact her if you would like to book a regular session in the Library for your club. Students and staff can now search the Ridgeway Academy Library Catalogue from any device from our exciting new Web App. Please watch the How to Use the Web App tutorial to learn how to search the catalogue effectively.Library Newsletter
