Ridgeway Academy is proud to be the hub-site for the Welwyn Hatfield School Sports Partnership, which is managed by Natasha Ferris. The Welwyn Hatfield School Games Partnership is a collaboration of 33 primary, 8 secondary and 3 special schools. The Partnership offers a broad and varied competition structure, allowing students to represent their schools in a range of sports. The School Games inspires young people to be physically active for life through creating positive experiences of daily activity and competition, as well as building social skills and connections which helps to create a sense of belonging. Testimonials
Being part of the Ridgeway School Sports Partnership has given our children opportunities that we, at times, cannot provide them in Primary School. Targeted sessions give our SEN and PPG children the opportunity to visit a local secondary school, take part in activities that they can excel in and meet children from other local schools. Similarly, through the Ridgeway School Sports Partnership we take part in inter-school competitions which the children thoroughly enjoy. Our Year 6 children get the opportunity to begin meeting secondary aged students through the Ridgeway Sports Leaders who can attend inter-school events and support during sports days. As a PE lead, the partnership also supports the application process for the school games mark. Through the Ridgeway School Sports Partnership, we are able to access specialised support for teachers instructing PE and this has been particularly effective in supporting ECTs. Our PE provision would not be able to continue with its successes without the Ridgeway School Sports Partnership. Mrs T. O’Donnell at Springmead Primary School
By being a part of the RWA school sports partnership, it gives our children at Swallow Dell access to a diverse range of sporting activities and competitions. Not only this, but it allows our children to interact with other children of similarities ages. By having regular meetings with our SSCO and other PE leads, we can share ideas and organise friendly matches. As RWA is in walking distance from Swallow Dell we are able to attend events all year round which are always run brilliantly under Natasha and the sports leaders. This also gives children in upper KS2 an insight of what they can do in the future once they move on to secondary school. One of the best recent changes to RWA school sports partnership offer, is being able to select the scheme which is most beneficial for your school. The events we have been to as a school have always been engaging and well run. The children are encouraged and supported across a wide range of sporting opportunities. Natasha has always produced excellent lessons for the children in our school and understands the needs of all students. Children are engaged, challenged and learn a wide range of skills. One of my favorite events are the TAP events where children are given the opportunity to try sports they otherwise may not have access to. Thank you for all the hard work that goes into creating these events and all of the help and support you give the children. Waterside Academy
